TALLAHASSEE – The Florida State women's tennis team (5-4, 1-1 ACC) earns it's first ranked victory of the season as the Seminoles won 6-1 against No. 14 Duke (6-4, 0-2 ACC) at the Scott Speicher Tennis Center on Sunday.
"We fired on all cylinders today and took control of the match after the doubles point and never let up," head coach Jennifer Hyde said. "It is hard to do, especially against a very good Duke team, and I am so glad we gave that effort today."
Florida State started off strong as Ellie Schoppe and Kristyna Lavickova won 7-6 (4) at No. 2 doubles. Anna Arkadianou and Vic Allen followed by winning 7-6 (1) at No. 1 doubles to secure the doubles point and take the early 1-0 lead.
The Seminoles continued the momentum as they won five of their first sets and tacked onto their lead as sophomore Millie Bissett won 6-3, 6-1 at No. 4 singles.
Duke responded with a win at No. 5 singles to cut the deficit.
Florida State's Anna Arkadianou earned an incredible 6-1, 6-1 win over the 76th-ranked Katie Codd put the Seminoles ahead 3-1.
Senior Ellie Schoppe clinched the match as she defeated No. 80 Shavit Kimchi 6-2, 7-5. The Seminoles did not stop there as Laura Putz won 7-5, 6-1 and Allen won 6-1, 7-5 to conclude the day.
Sunday's victory was FSU's highest-ranked win since defeated No. 10 Duke 4-2 on March 25, 2022.
Florida State returns to action next Sunday against Mercer and FAMU at the Scott Speicher Tennis Center. Live stats and video will be available on Seminoles.com.
