Arnold Leads Noles Past New Orleans

TALLAHASSEE – Sophomore Jamie Arnold extended his streak without allowing an earned run to 23.0 innings as FSU beat New Orleans 8-0 Sunday afternoon at Dick Howser Stadium. The 14-0 start for FSU is fourth-best in program history and the Noles are one of two undefeated teams remaining in Division I.
Arnold struck out five batters in 5.0 innings to move to 4-0 on the season. The Privateers reached third base just once against the left-hander. John Abraham, Connor Hults and Matt Sauser combined for 4.0 scoreless frames to preserve FSU's third shutout of the season and second of the weekend.
James Tibbs got FSU on the board with a solo home run in the first inning, his team-high seventh of the year. FSU scored in the first four innings and one more in the sixth frame to provide the final margin.
FSU has scored at least seven runs in all 14 games this season, the longest seven-run streak in school history.

- Florida State's 14-0 record is tied for the fourth-best start in program history. FSU and Texas A&M are the last two undefeated teams in the country.
- FSU has scored at least seven runs in 14 consecutive games, a school record. The previous high was 12 straight games in March 1986 and March 1996.
- James Tibbs III hit his team-high seventh home run in the first inning. His 34 career home runs are top 25 in the country among active players; Tibbs leads FSU with 26 RBI this year.
- Tibbs was 3-for-4 on the day; FSU has had a player with three hits in all 14 games.
- FSU improved to 10-0 when scoring in the first inning and when scoring first.
- Cam Smith doubled and scored a run in the fourth inning to extend his hitting streak to 18 games, the second-longest for a Seminole over the past 10 seasons. Teammate Jaime Ferrer had a 20-game streak last season.
- Marco Dinges hit his third home run of the season and extended his hitting streak to eight games.
- Starting pitcher Jamie Arnold pitched 5.0 scoreless innings with five strikeouts. Arnold has not allowed an earned run in 22.0 IP to start 2024 and 23.0 IP dating to last season. He is the first Seminole pitcher to win his first four starts of a season since Bryce Hubbart in 2022.
- Arnold faced one New Orleans batter with a runner on third base, forcing an inning-ending groundout. For the season, Arnold is holding opponents to 0-for-8 with three strikeouts and five groundouts with a runner on third base.
- Freshman John Abraham struck out a career-high five batters in 2.2 relief innings.
- Jaxson West threw out a base-stealer in the eighth inning. Opponents are now just 3-for-4 on stolen base attempts this season.
