FSU Clinches Home ACC First Round Game with Senior Day Win

10/30/2025 10:25:00 PM | Women's Soccer

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The No. 6 Florida State soccer team defeated RV Wake Forest 4-1 on Thursday night in the regular-season finale to secure a spot in the ACC Championship and a first round home game on Sunday night.

With the victory, the Seminoles (10-2-3, 6-2-2 ACC) earned a spot in the six-team ACC Championship, a feat they have achieved all 31 years of the program's history. Fourth-seeded FSU will host No. 5 seed Virginia on Sunday, November 2, at 8 p.m. ET, at the Seminole Soccer Complex. Tickets will go on sale on Friday at noon ET, at Seminoles.com/Tickets. A ticket will be required for all fans, and the first 100 students will receive free admission with a valid FSU ID.

Thursday night's win was Senior Day and the annual Seminole Heritage game. Prior to the contest, the team's six seniors were recognized: Enasia Colon, Heather Gilchrist, Marianyela Jiménez, Sophia Nguyen, Giana Riley and Kameron Simmonds.

Junior forward Jordynn Dudley recorded her seventh career brace in the win over the Demon Deacons (10-4-4, 4-3-3 ACC). Her second two-goal game in a row and seventh of her career, Dudley extended her point streak to 13 consecutive games with multiple points in four of her last five matches. Her first goal on Thursday night, a penalty kick, was her second game-winning goal of 2025. She now has nine goals and a team-best 29 points on the season.

Sophomore midfielder Taylor Suarez opened the scoring by burying a free kick into the top right corner of the goal in the 10th minute. Dudley then scored a penalty kick in the 21st minute after drawing a foul in the 18-yard box to make it 2-0. Dudley secured her second goal of the night on an assist from Suarez in the 54th minute to extend the lead to 3-0. After Wake Forest got a goal back in the 56th minute, junior midfielder Yuna McCormack answered six minutes later thanks to an assist from sophomore forward Wrianna Hudson.

Suarez and McCormack each scored their career-best fourth goals of the season, while Suarez added her fourth assist. Hudson's assist was her first of the season.

Florida State out-shot Wake Forest 19-7, with 16 shots on goal to WF's three. The Seminoles took six corner kicks to the Demon Deacons' two. Dudley led all players with six shots and five shots on goal, and she was one of four Florida State players with multiple shots on goal. Freshman goalkeeper Kate Ockene made a career-high-tying two saves for a second consecutive game and her Wake counterpart stopped 12 shots.

The Demon Deacons got the game's first corner kick in the fifth minute, a chance that was grabbed in the air by Ockene. Florida State then drew a foul just outside the top of the 18-yard box, which led to Suarez's goal. The free kick went around the wall and into the top right corner of the goal for the 1-0 lead at 9:37.

Senior midfielder Kameron Simmonds had a chance less than a minute later that was saved, and two minutes after that, a pass from senior defender Heather Gilchrist connected with Dudley to force another save by the WF keeper.

Dudley's pressure would be rewarded in the 21st minute. Closing in on the goal box, she drew a foul before burying the chance from the spot to extend the lead to 2-0 at 20:46.

Dudley and Suarez both continued to have opportunities in the ensuing minutes, with Dudley's shot blocked and Suarez's saved.

Sophomore forward Solai Washington got the final chance of the half, in the 43rd minute, but it was just saved before bouncing off the post.

The Seminoles outshot the Demon Deacons 7-3 in the opening 45 minutes, with six shots on goal to Wake Forest's one. Florida State took three corner kicks and WF earned one.

The second half saw no halt in momentum for the Florida State offensive attack. Five minutes in, a Dudley shot was just saved before a pair of corner kicks and a shot from Simmonds was saved.

Dudley made it 3-0 at 53:47. A deep pass to the right side from Suarez found the feet of the junior forward, who dribbled around her defender in the penalty box and fired over the hands of the keeper, burying the ball into the top of the goal.

The Demon Deacons got a goal back at 55:09 to make it 3-1.

The Seminoles answered with back-to-back shots by Hudson in the goal box, one that was deflected by the Wake keeper. However, her second was a left-footed shot that slipped past and found a charging McCormack to knock the ball across the goal line. At 61:20, it was 4-1.

Ockene made a nice save in the 68th minute and sophomore midfielder Peyton McGovern had a chance saved in the 74th. Saves also were made on shots from freshman defender Jaida McGrew and Simmonds in the 82nd and 83rd minutes. Freshman forward Ashlyn Anderson had Florida State's final shot saved with two minutes remaining.

FSU out-shot WF 12-4 in the second half with a 10-2 advantage in shots on goal. Corners were 3-1 in favor of the home side.
