Florida State Drops First Away Game Against Florida

GAINESVILLE, FL - Robert McCray V led all scorers with 29 points and Kobe MaGee added 14 points in Florida State's 78-76 loss to the No. 10 Florida Gators at the Exactech Arena at the Stephen O'Connell Center. McCray V scored his Florida State high for points on nine made field goals and nine made free throws, to go along with four assists and three steals in the Seminoles' first road contest of the year.
The Seminoles fell to 2-1 and the Gators improved to 2-1.
McCray V scored 21 of his 29 points in the second half including the Seminoles' final 15 points of the game as Florida State cut a nine-point deficit to one point with 17 seconds remaining to be played. The Gators outscored the Seminoles 4-3 in the final 15 seconds of the game to earn their winning margin. A full-court heave at the buzzer by Florida State's Chauncey Wiggins was on line but fell just short as the Seminoles had a final shot to win the game.
Out of 18 Florida turnovers Florida State worked for nine steals which would turn into 12 Florida State points.
The Gators opened the game on a 5-0 run before the Seminoles cut it to a 17-14 lead on a McCray V layup. McCray finished one point shy of 30 to mark his third consecutive game in double-figure scoring and his just his third game as a Seminole. Wiggins finished with 11 points as he, too, scored in double-figures for the third consecutive game as a Seminole.
Florida State closed out the first half outscoring the Gators 26-20 and ended the first half with a 40-37 lead.
Florida State upped its lead to four points at the 13:42 mark at 53-49. Florida outscored the Seminoles 29-23 during the remainder of the game to secure its second win of the season.
Kobe MaGee added 14 points on two made threes as well as a team-high nine rebounds and one steal. MaGee is the Seminoles' leader in three point shots made through three games. MaGee's has made at least one 3-point shot in each of his first three games as a Seminole.
Alex Steen recorded eight rebounds and eight points as a starter for the third consecutive games.
Freshmen Thomas Bassong (three points, two rebounds, and a steal) and Cam Miles (three points and one rebound) would score for the third consecutive game of the 2025-2026 season.
Florida's Thomas Haugh earned a double-double of 20 points and 13 rebounds to lead the Gators. Rueben Chinyelu totaled a double-double of 10 points and a game-high 16 rebounds.
The Seminoles will return to Donald L. Tucker Center next Tuesday to take on the UT Martin Skyhawks next Tuesday.
