Seminoles to Open NCAA Tournament Friday at Home

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The No. 3-seeded Florida State soccer team will begin the NCAA Tournament with a First Round matchup against Samford on Friday, November 14, at 5 p.m. ET at the Seminole Soccer Complex in Tallahassee, Florida.

Making its 26th consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance and hosting the First Round for the 21st time, Florida State is 10-2-4 on the season, 6-1-2 at home, 4-1-2 on the road and 2-2-1 against top-25 opponents. The Seminoles finished fourth in the ACC with a 6-2-2 record and made the conference tournament for the 31st time, the only program to make the postseason event every year in the team's history. FSU played three of the four No. 1 seeds in this year's NCAA Tournament, going 1-2-1 against those three squads.
With four national championships and 14 College Cup appearances, Florida State is 83-19-6 all-time in the NCAA Tournament. That includes a 24-0-1 record in the First Round, with 2004 the only year the team did not advance. The Seminoles have made the NCAA Tournament every year since 2000 and will host the First Round for a 21st time and for the 16th time in the last 17 years. 2001, 2004, 2005, 2008 and 2020 are the only times FSU hasn't hosted the First Round, with the 2020 postseason contested solely in Cary, North Carolina, in the spring of 2021.
Friday evening's 2025 First Round matchup is a rematch of the 2024 NCAA opener, as FSU bested Samford 8-0 to begin the tournament. The SoCon regular-season and postseason champions, the Bulldogs are 13-2-5 on the season.
FSU has scored 43 goals with 45 assists on 298 shots and 134 shots on goal in 2025. In 16 games, the team has allowed 13 goals on 111 shots, 43 on target, with 30 saves for a 0.810 goals-against average and a .698 save percentage.
Junior forward Jordynn Dudley leads the team with 29 points, 11 assists and 58 shots and is second with nine goals and 22 shots on goal. She had a point in 13 consecutive games with multiple points in four of the last five matches to conclude the regular season. Sophomore forward Wrianna Hudson paces the team with 11 goals and 29 shots on goal and is second with 23 points. In goal, redshirt sophomore Addie Todd has made 17 saves in her nine appearances for a .708 save percentage and a 0.84 goals-against average.
In the national rankings, FSU is No. 6 in the country in goals per game (2.69), No. 7 in shots on goal per game (8.38) and corner kicks per game (7.19), No. 8 in assists per game (2.81), points per game (8.19) and shots per game (18.63), No. 11 in goal differential (+30) and No. 18 in shutout percentage (.563).
Individually, Dudley is third in the NCAA in assists per game (0.69), ninth in total assists (11), 12th in points per game (1.81) and 26th in total points (29). Hudson ranks No. 5 in shot accuracy (.659), No. 25 in goals per game (0.69) and No. 27 in shots on goal per game (1.81).
In the final regular-season polls, Florida State remains at No. 6 in the United Soccer Coaches top-25, released on November 4. The Seminoles also are seventh in this week's Top Drawer Soccer poll.
SERIES HISTORY VS. SAMFORD
Florida State is 5-0-0 all-time against Samford, including 3-0-0 in the NCAA Tournament. FSU is 4-0-0 at home and 1-0-0 on the road, with four of the five games being shutout wins. The series began with a 2-0 victory in 2011, followed by a 4-0 triumph in 2016, both in the NCAA First Round. Two regular-season matchups followed, a 4-2 win in 2017 in Birmingham, Alabama, before a 6-0 home victory in 2019.
A year ago, FSU opened NCAA play with an 8-0 win over Samford, the largest postseason win in school history. Dudley scored twice, including the opener in the eighth minute, and had two assists for a career-high six-point game. Among current Seminoles, Marianyela Jiménez had a goal and an assist, Solai Washington scored once, Taylor Suarez had two assists and Sophia Nguyen notched an assist.

SCOUTING THE BULLDOGS

The Bulldogs won the SoCon regular season and conference titles, with a 7-0-2 league record before a trio of tournament wins, all at home. SU is coming off a 4-1 win over Mercer in the SoCon final, the team's seventh consecutive victory. Samford is unbeaten in 14 in a row, and FSU will be its first ranked opponent of the year.
The Bulldogs are making their ninth NCAA appearance and will play in their 11th NCAA game. With an all-time record of 1-7-2, the Bulldogs reached the Second Round in 2005 after tying at Vanderbilt 1-1, and in 2021 with a 2-0 win at Auburn. After its first NCAA berth in 2005, SU has made it in five of the last seven years, including back-to-back appearances in 2021-22 and 2024-25.
LAST TIME OUT: ACC FIRST ROUND DRAW
Florida State played to a 0-0 draw against Virginia in the first round of the ACC Championship before UVA advanced in the penalty shootout on November 2.
In a matchup between two teams that tied for fourth place in the ACC standings, and in a rematch of a regular-season contest just 10 days before, the Seminoles and Cavaliers did not score a goal in 90 minutes of regulation and two 10-minute overtime periods. Following 110 minutes, UVA advanced 6-5 in the penalty shootout to move on to the ACC Semifinals.
Florida State outshot Virginia 23-13 with an 8-4 advantage in shots on goal. FSU earned 13 corner kicks to UVA's five. Hudson led all players with seven shots and five shots on goal. Freshman goalkeeper Kate Ockene recorded a career-high four saves, while her Virginia counterpart also had a career best with eight saves.
