Wiggins Leads Seminoles To 5-1 Record With 89-59 Victory Over Cal State Bakersfield

TALLAHASSEE - Chauncey Wiggins led all scorers with 17 points, and Martin Somerville and Robert McCray V added 14 points each in Florida State's 89-59 win against the CSU Bakersfield Roadrunners at the Donald L. Tucker Center. Wiggins, Somerville, and McCray V led four Seminoles in double figures as senior Alex Steen earned the first double-double of his Florida State career with 13 points and 10 rebounds.

Florida State improved its record to 5-1 and as it won its third consecutive game overall and its third consecutive game at home. The Seminoles have won all five of their home games. The Roadrunners fall to 3-4.

Florida State forced 28 turnovers, 13 of which were Florida State steals, and scored 40 points off of those turnovers. The Seminoles' 40 points off turnovers set a new season-high, besting the previous high of 33 against UT Martin on Nov. 18, 2025.

Wiggins led Florida State in scoring for the second time this season and tied his season high with three 3-point shots made. Wiggins added six rebounds and one steal to his all-around performance.

McCray V's 14 points mark the fifth game that he has finished with double-digit scoring and added four assists to his total, as well.

Freshman Cam Miles finished with a game-high seven assists. Miles' seven assists also set a career high, topping his previous high of five assists, which he set against Georgia Southern on November 21.

CSUB led the game 8-4 with 15:00 minutes left in the first half. A quick 5-0 spurt gave the Seminoles their first lead of the game at 9-8 at the 13:50 mark. Senior Shah Muhammad recorded his first two points of the season to give the Seminoles their first lead of the game.

Over the next two minutes, Florida State went on an 8-0 run to extend their lead out to nine at 19-10. Five of Florida State points during that run came from freshman Thomas Bassong.

In addition to Bassong's five points, he finished with two rebounds and a block.

Steen scored a buzzer-beater layup to end the first half and give the Seminoles an 11-point lead 35-24.

Steen recorded his first double-double as a Seminole. In addition, he totaled two blocked shots which put him over the 200 blocks plateau for his collegiate career.

Wiggins opened up the second half with a made 3-point shot to give Florida State a 14-point lead, 38-24.

Florida State recorded all eight of its made 3-point shots in the second half and scored 24 of its 54 second-half points from behind the arc.

Somerville scored 14 of the Seminoles' 22 points during that run. Somerville scored 12 of the 14 points over that stretch from behind the three-point line, and three of his 3-point makes were consecutive. Somerville's four 3-point shots tied his season high which he set against Alabama State on November 7.

Somerville recorded two steals, which gives him 12 on the season and is tied for the team high. Senior guard Kobe MaGee led all players with five steals. MaGee's five steals set a new career-high, topping his previous record of three. MaGee recorded three steals twice in games against Alabama State on November 7, 2025, and against Purdue Fort Wayne on November 25, 2024.

Florida State travels to Tampa to take on Texas A&M in the next round of the Battle in the Bay Tournament on Friday at 5:00 pm at the Benchmark International Arena. The game will be televised on ESPN2.
