Seminoles Look To Capitalize On Huge Opportunity Against Rival Miami
- The Florida State volleyball team has a huge opportunity this Wednesday night at No. 14 Miami as the Noles look to boost their resume for a spot in the NCAA Tournament.
- The Noles sit 50th in the RPI and are looking for its first win against a team in the top 50 of the RPI on Wednesday night.
- Miami ranks 18th in the RPI.
- A win over the Hurricanes would be the Seminoles first road win over a top 15 team since the Seminoles took down No. 11 Miami in Coral Gables in 2021.
Noles Finding Groove in Win Streak
- After losing four consecutive matches from Oct. 5-16, the Seminoles have turned their season around, rattling off five consecutive wins and have put them right back in the mix for a spot in the NCAA Tournament.
- FSU has wins over Cal, Virginia, Virginia Tech, Syracuse and Boston College.
- During the win streak, Iane Henke has been phenomenal as she is averaging over 20 kills in the last five matches. Henke averaged five kills per set for 105 kills during the win streak while hitting .295.
- The Noles have been much more efficient offensively during the win streak as the Noles are hitting .285 during the win streak compared to .192 in the seven matches prior where they were 2-5.
Noles Have Dominated Hurricanes in Recent History
- The FSU and Miami rivalry has been dominated by the Garnet and Gold the last few years as FSU has rattled off six-consecutive wins against Miami.
- FSU's six-match win streak is tied for the longest streak by either team in the series. FSU also won six-consecutive matches against Miami from 2012-15.
- The two teams have been known to play tight matches as four out of the last seven meetings have gone into five sets.
- FSU leads the all-time series 37-24-1.
Noles Have History of Slowing Down Flormarie Heredia Colon
- Miami's Flomarie Heredia Colon has proven to be one of the top players in the county as the senior outside hitter leads the country in kills per set and points per set and is second in the country in total kills, but the Noles have been able to slow her down in recent history.
- In six matches, the Seminoles have held Heredia Colon to just 71 kills but more impressively have held the 2024 All-American to a .048 hitting percentage forcing 51 errors in those six matches.
- Heredia Colon has never eclipsed the 20-kill mark against the Seminoles, a mark she has surpassed 18 times in her career.
Last Time Out
- The Noles continued to roll last weekend as they took down Syracuse in four sets on Friday and Boston College in a thrilling five-set match on Sunday afternoon.
- Henke and Filimaua once again led the Noles offensively as Henke tallied 41 kills and 4.56 kills per set while Filimaua added 32 kills and 3.56 kills per set.
- Nellie Stevenson and Lily Nicholson controlled the offense well once again with 53 assists and 44 assists respectively.
- Mio Yamamoto led the way defensively with 35 digs for the Garnet and Gold.
Henke Putting Together One of the Best Seasons in Program History
- Iane Henke was looking to take a big step in her second year with the Garnet and Gold and has done that and much more in her senior season with the Noles.
- Henke is second on the team with 282 kills but is third in the ACC in kills per set (4.62) and points per set (5.33).
- Henke's 5.33 points per set is 12th in the entire country and is on pace to break the school record for points per set. Henke is also 15th in the country in kills per set. (4.62).
- Henke missed five matches from Oct. 3-16 due to a lower body injury. The Noles were 1-4 with Henke out and are 12-4 when Henke plays.
- Henke recorded 20 or more kills in four consecutive matches against Clemson, Georgia Tech, Cal and Virginia. Henke is the first player in program history to have 20 or more kills in four consecutive matches in the rally scoring era.
- Henke has recorded 20 or more kills in five out of her last seven matches.
- Henke had 21 kills in a three-set loss against Georgia Tech. Henke is one of two players in the ACC to record 20 or more kills in a three-set match this season.
- Against Cal, Henke had a career-high 27 kills which is the eighth-most kills in a match by an ACC player. Henke was also the first Nole to record over 30 points in a match since Payton Caffrey on November 4, 2018, against Louisville.
- In the four matches against North Florida, USF, South Carolina and Oklahoma, Henke tallied 15 or more kills in all four of those matches while hitting over .300 in all those matches. Henke is the first FSU player since Norisha Campbell in 2001 to accomplish that feat.
- Henke has recorded 15 or more kills in 14 out of the 16 matches she's played in this season.
- Henke has recorded double digit kills in 15 consecutive matches.
- Henke has recorded 21 service aces so far this season after recording just five aces all of last season.
- Against UIC, Henke had seven service aces which was tied for the fourth-most in FSU history. Henke joined Audrey Koenig as the only two FSU players to record seven or more aces in the past 20 seasons.
- Henke's seven aces are tied for the third-most in a three-set match of any player in the country this season.
- Henke was the 2022 Division II AVCA National Freshman of the Year at Cal State LA.
Filimaua a Reliable Force for the Noles
- Filimaua is FSU's most experienced and productive returner as a three-year starter in her junior season.
- In her first full season as an outside hitter, Filimaua leads the team with 304 kills along with 189 digs and 29 service aces.
- Filimaua has recorded double digit kills in her last 10 matches and in 17 out of the last 20 matches.
- Filimaua ranks eighth in the ACC with 4.29 points per set and is currently on pace to finish in the top 10 in program history for points per set in a season.
- Filimaua has recorded nine double doubles this season.
- In 2024, Filimaua did a little bit of everything as she recorded 173 kills, 66 assists, 27 aces, 267 digs and 23 blocks. Filimaua filled in at libero during the middle of the season last year but returned to her main position as an outside hitter in 2025.
Filimaua and Henke have Historic Match Against Cal
- No one was able to stop Iane Henke and Kyleene Filimaua last Saturday against Cal as the duo put together a performance for the record books in the Bay Area.
- Henke tallied a career high 27 kills while Filimaua tied her career high with 25 kills.
- It was the first time in the rally scoring era that the Seminoles have had two players with over 25 kills in a match and the first time since October 27, 1995, when LaToya Presberry and Holly Schneider had 30 kills and 28 kills respectively against Virginia.
- Henke and Filimaua are the only duo in the ACC to have 25 or more kills in the same match this season.
- Prior to this season, the Seminoles hadn't had a player reach the 25 kill mark since Payton Caffrey in 2019. Filimaua has recorded 25 kills twice this year and Henke reached that mark again against Cal.
Kpea Impressing in Her Freshman Season
- Nenu Kpea has had a great start to her career in the Garnet and Gold and has taken her play to the next level.
- Kpea has played in all 82 sets for FSU and leads the team with 82 blocks and 1.00 blocks per set.
- Kpea has recorded 150 kills and is hitting .296.
Victoria David Makes the Most of Opportunity
- In the absence of Iane Henke last weekend, freshman Victoria David stepped up in a big way with a great weekend against Wake Forest and NC State.
- David played in just six sets prior to the Wake Forest and NC State matches as she played in 21 sets in the absence of Henke.
- David has 34 total kills with 39 digs and seven blocks.
Ewing Giving the Noles Great Production
- Delaney Ewing has been a great addition for the Noles in the middle.
- Ewing has played in 79 out of the 82 sets with 102 kills and 81 blocks.
- Ewing had her best match with the Garnet and Gold as she recorded a season-best 10 kills and eight blocks at NC State.
- Against UIC, Ewing had seven kills on seven swings in the Noles' sweep over the Flames.
- Ewing comes from the University of San Francisco where she recorded 155 kills and 83 blocks in her freshman season.
Former Sun Belt Libero of the Year Mio Yamamoto Leading the Noles Defensively
- The Noles made a big splash in the transfer portal in picking up 2023 Sun Belt Libero of the Year Mio Yamamoto from Louisiana.
- Yamamoto leads the team with 290 digs and has also added 27 aces. Yamamoto recorded a career-high six service aces against Virginia on Oct. 24.
- Yamamoto has recorded double digit digs in 17 out of the 21 matches this season and had a season-high 25 digs at NC State on Oct. 5.
- Yamamoto was a two-time All-Sun Belt First Team selection in her two seasons in Lafayette.
- Yamamoto ranked in the top 25 in the country in digs per set and recorded 13 matches with 20 or more digs in 2024.
- Yamamoto has the most career digs of anyone on FSU's roster.
Nicholson and Stevenson Leading FSU's Offense
- FSU brought in a couple of transfers from the portal to lead the offense for the 2025 season.
- Lily Nicholson comes from TCU where she played in 112 out of the 113 sets for the Horned Frogs last season.
- Nicholson leads the Seminoles with 412 assists and 5.02 assists per set.
- Nicholson became just the eighth player in TCU history to record 1,000 assists with her 1,108 assists in her sophomore campaign.
- She averaged 9.89 assists per set which ranked fifth in the Big 12 and 60th nationally.
- She helped the Horned Frogs record a .252 hitting percentage over the course of the season which was tied for the second-best mark in school history.
- Stevenson comes from Montana State where she started two seasons for the Bobcats.
- Stevenson has recorded 410 assists in 21 matches.
- Stevenson recorded over 1,000 assists in 2023 and added 664 assists in 2024.
- Stevenson tallied 68 service aces in her two seasons in Bozeman.
