TALLAHASSEE – The seventh-ranked Florida State Women's Golf team begins play on Sunday looking to make program history.

Following victories at the Landfall Tradition to close the fall season and in the Collegiate Invitational at the Guadalajara Country Club to open the spring season, the Seminoles are looking to win three consecutive tournaments for the first time in school history.  The Seminoles most recently won consecutive tournament championships in 2019 at the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate and the Evans Derby Invitational.

The Seminoles begin play in the Eighth Annual Moon Invitational on the Classic Course at the Suntree Country Club in Melbourne, Fla., on Sunday, February 16. The event will be played over three days with 18 holes played each day.

During the 2017 season, head coach Amy Bond led her team to consecutive championships twice – at the Jim West Challenge and the Cardinal Cup along with the Florida State Match Up and the Dickson Invitational.

Consecutive tournament championships have happened six times in the illustrious history of the program.

"Winning any tournament is hard," said Bond. "Winning three consecutive tournaments is what we have our sights set on this week.

"The field at the Moon is an NCAA Championships caliber field. Every team you will be paired is capable, and likely to shoot an incredible score. Every team is really good, and every team has really good players. This tournament has developed into one of the best early spring tournaments in college golf. We are excited to tee off on Sunday morning."

Florida State will play in the Moon Invitational for the fifth consecutive season and won the team championship in 2022 with a six-stroke victory over Virginia.

Bond and her team enter the tournament with their highest ranking of the season (No. 7) and an overall record of 56-6-2 in five events. The Seminoles have yet to finish outside of the top five in the team standings as they have earned two first place one second, one third and one fourth place finish.

The No. 7 Seminoles are the third-highest ranked team in the event and are behind only No. 4 South Carolina and No. 6 Texas.

The event includes four top 10 teams (No. 6 Texas, No. 7 Florida State, No. 9 Northwestern, No. 10 Virginia), six more ranked in the top 25 (No. 12 Wake Forest, No. 13 North Carolina, No. 16 Ole Miss, No. 18, Texas A&M, No. 19 LSU, No. 21 Auburn) and three more ranked within the top 50 (No. 34 UCF, No. 40 Clemson, No. 41 Tennessee) in the 17-team field.

Florida State's lineup includes two of the top players in the world with No. 1 ranked Lottie Woad and No. 3 ranked Mirabel Ting along with a trio of freshmen in Sophia Fullbrook, Alexandra Gazzoli, and newcomer Layla Pedrique.

Woad, who has been ranked No. 1 in the World Amateur Golf Ranking for 27 consecutive weeks, has earned seven consecutive top six finishes including the individual championship at the Landfall Tradition. She is averaging 70.21 strokes in 14 rounds this year and tied the school record for the lowest round in program history, 65, in the first round of the Landfall.

Ting enters the Moon Invitational with three consecutive victories in three events this season – the Folds of Honor Collegiate, the Schooner Fall Classic, and the Collegiate Invitational.  In those three events, Ting is a total of 24 strokes under par, has played eight rounds at par or better, and is averaging 68.50 strokes in eight rounds during the three events.

Incredibly, Ting is undefeated as she finished first out of 75 golfers at the Folds of Honor, first of 90 golfers at the Schooner, and first of 63 golfers at the Collegiate Invitational.

Ting enters play in the Moon Invitational with a cumulative record of 225-0.

Both Fullbrook (five events, 73.29 stroke average) and Gazzoli (two events, 76.50 stroke average) have helped the Seminoles win at least one tournament championship this year. Fullbrook has been in the lineup for each of Florida State's tournaments and has helped the Seminoles to three championships. Gazzoli has played in two events and helped the Seminoles to the championship at the Landfall Tradition with a career-best score of 71 in the third round of the championship. Pedrique will make her Florida State debut at the Moon.

"The Moon has a great field," said Fulbrook. "With the way we're playing as a team I think we all strongly believe we have the chance to continue the success."

Florida State begins play in the first round on Sunday at 9:40 a.m. The Seminoles are set to play the first round from hole No. 1 with Wake Forest and Alabama.
