CARY, N.C.  –  The No. 17 Florida State men's tennis team began its ACC Championship run with a 4-3 victory over Louisville in the second round.

The top-20 pairing of Alex Bulte and Youcef Rihane displayed one of their finest performances of the season, winning five consecutive games to propel themselves to a 6-1 win on Court 1. The senior All-Americans have won nine matches against conference opponents and 11 Court 1 victories. Louisville responded with a win on Court 3.

Joshua Dous-Karpenschif and Erik Schiessl faced a 3-1 deficit and strung together five consecutive wins, including two service breaks to seal the doubles point. The Court 2 duo leads the Seminoles in doubles victories this spring with 13 wins.

The Seminoles split the opening set in singles play. Louisville levelled the match after a straight-sets win on Court 6.

Dous-Karpenschif found himself in a 3-2 hole before rattling off four straight games to win the opening set before trading games at 5-5 in the second frame. The Lyon, France, native served out the advantage at 6-5 before blitzing the final game to win 7-5. Dous-Karpenschif extends his five-match unbeaten streak in singles play.

Jamie Connel was deadlocked at 6-6 facing a first-set tiebreaker before scoring the opening five points for a 5-0 lead and winning 7-1. Connel pulled away with the momentum as he closed his match out with four straight games. The senior earned his seventh ranked win of the season.

The deciding match came down to Erik Schiessl on Court 3. The sophomore exchanged 6-2 sets with his opponent and would require a third and final set to decide the match.

Schiessl won three of the four opening games to apply the pressure before recovering from an injury on court that sidelined him for an extended amount of time during the third set. He returned and worked through the match and pushed to the match point at 40-40. Schiessl served out the final point and secured the victory.

Florida State advances to the ACC Championship quarterfinal round for a 13th consecutive appearance and has won its last five matches at Cary Tennis Park. The Seminoles will face No. 8 Stanford on Friday at 6 p.m. Live video and stats will be available on Seminoles.com.
