Florida State battled triple-digit heat to shoot rounds of 297 (+9) and 286 (-2) on Monday
FRISCO, Texas – No. 21-ranked Florida State played 36 holes under triple-digit heat Monday at the Jackson T. Stephens Cup, and as the temperature got hotter at Fields Ranch East at PGA Frisco, so did the Seminoles.

Florida State opened the day with a nine-over 297 before responding with a two-under 286 in the second round, the second-lowest team score of the afternoon. The Seminoles sank 15 birdies in the second round to close the gap on the leaders and set themselves up for a pivotal final round.

Alexandra Gazzoli led the way for the Seminoles. Celebrating her 21st birthday, the junior registered a team-best one-over 73 in round one followed by a two-under 70 in the second round. She birdied three of her final four holes, including lengthy putts on No. 8Â and No. 9, to put her into a tie for fifth at one-under for the tournament.

Haruhi Nakatani matched Gazzoli in round two with a two-under 70, getting off to a fast start with four birdies across her first eight holes. After carding a two-over 74 in round one, Nakatani is tied for eighth at even par heading into Tuesday's final round.

Sophia Fullbrook followed her opening-round 75 with a one-over 73, recording 17 pars and one bogey in the second round. Louise Landgraf provided the fourth scorecard for the Seminoles for the first 18 holes, shooting three-over 75 while Elin Pudas Remler rebounded with a one-over 73 to provide Florida State's fourth counting score.

The Seminoles remained fifth after both rounds in the six-team field but narrowed the gap on the teams ahead of them. Florida State is one shot behind No. 3 Texas and four shots behind No. 12 Oregon. No. 15 South Carolina leads the tournament at nine-under, followed by No. 6 Wake Forest at eight-under. Defending national champion and No. 1 preseason-ranked Stanford is sixth at 23-over.

The third and final round will be played Tuesday, with the top four teams advancing to Wednesday's match play. It will be nationally televised on the Golf Channel with live stats available at Scoreboard.
