Florida State finished two strokes behind Texas for the fourth spot
FRISCO, Texas – Fields Ranch East at PGA Frisco showed its teeth Tuesday in the third round of the Jackson T. Stephens Cup. Playing a full stroke tougher than Monday's 36-hole day, all six nationally ranked teams finished over par, while just three golfers in the field shot under par.

In the end, No. 21-ranked Florida State shot 14-over 302 as a team and was unable to move into the top four and advance to match play. With No. 6 Wake Forest, No. 15 South Carolina and No. 12 Oregon locked into the top three spots throughout the round, the fourth and final spot came down to Florida State and No. 3 Texas.

The two teams were neck-and-neck throughout the challenging third round. Despite five combined birdies on the final three holes, the Longhorns narrowly bested the Seminoles by two strokes to earn the final spot in Wednesday's match play.

After shooting 21-over (297-286-302=885) for the tournament, Florida State finished fifth, ahead of preseason No. 1 and defending national champion Stanford.

Elin Pudas Remler had the best round of the day for Florida State with a one-over 73, which tied for the 10th-lowest round among the stacked field in the third round. She notched a team-high four birdies, including one on the finishing No. 9, to climb seven spots and tie for 19th on the player leaderboard.

Also tying for 19th was freshman Louise Landgraf, who registered back-to-back birdies on Nos. 7 and 8 to shoot two-over 74, her lowest round of the tournament.

Haruhi Nakatani was the top finisher for the Seminoles for the second straight event, shooting five-over 77 to finish tied for 13th after shooting 221 (+5) for the tournament. Matching her finish was Alexandra Gazzoli, who sank birdies on two of her final three holes to shoot six-over 78 and finish at five-over 221 for the tournament.

Next up for Florida State is a short trip to Norman, Oklahoma, where the Seminoles will participate in the Schooner Fall Classic, hosted by the University of Oklahoma at Belmar Golf Club. Florida State will be one of 16 teams competing in the 54-hole tournament that will run Saturday through Monday (Sept. 19-21), playing 18 holes each day.
