Florida State in fourth after shooting four-under 276

NORMAN, Okla. – Sophomore Haruhi Nakatani fired a career-low five-under 65 to lead No. 21 Florida State in the opening round of the Schooner Fall Classic Saturday at Belmar Golf Club.
 
The Seminoles carded a four-under 276 and sit in fourth place, six strokes behind tournament leader and 27th-ranked TCU. Host Oklahoma is second at eight-under, followed by Iowa State at six-under.
 
Nakatani provided the highlight of the day for Florida State, posting the first bogey-free round of her collegiate career. She got off to a blazing start, making birdie on five of her first eight holes before closing with 10 consecutive pars. Her five-under 65 has her tied for first on the individual leaderboard after 18 holes and marks a new career low.
 
Preseason All-American Sophia Fullbrook also finished under par, shooting a two-under 68 to head into the second round tied for 13th. The junior recorded four birdies, including two on the front nine and two on the back including on the finishing 18th hole.
 
Alexandra Gazzoli added a one-under 69 to tie for 21st. The junior put together a steady round that included a birdie on the par-5 12th and eight pars on the back nine to finish under par.
 
The fourth counting score for the Seminoles came from Elin Pudas Remler, who finished with a four-over 74. The junior closed with birdies on two of her final three holes to help Florida State finish the opening round at four-under as a team.
 
Due to weather, Sunday's second round will begin with a 9 a.m. ET shotgun start. Florida State will be grouped with Oklahoma State and Virginia Tech and will begin on holes Nos. 3-5.
