Landgraf, Nakatani Lead Seminoles to Third-Place Finish

NORMAN, Okla. – Freshman Louise Landgraf etched her name into the Florida State record book Monday, firing a six-under 64 as No. 21 Florida State finished third at the Schooner Fall Classic at Belmar Golf Club.

The Seminoles carded a one-under 279 in the final round, which was the toughest of the tournament based on scoring average. The field averaged 72.34 strokes in the third round, compared to 71.67 in the opening round and 71.00 in the second. Florida State finished at 11-under 829 for the tournament, climbing one spot to place third in the 16-team field.

Iowa State ran away with the team title at 30-under, while host Oklahoma finished second at 13-under.

"Overall, it was a really good tournament," said head coach Amy Bond. "I thought Louise and Haruhi played some really good golf. Haruhi was solid from start to finish, and Louise really put it together over the last two rounds. They hit some great shots along the way that led to birdies, and you can make a lot of birdies on that golf course. I'm super proud of them. Third out of 16 teams, I'll take it. We have a few things to clean up, but overall, it's been a really good first three tournaments of the year."

The story of the final round was Landgraf, who followed a bogey-free three-under 67 on Sunday with an even better performance Monday.

Landgraf's spectacular round began with an eagle on the par-5 No. 9, her fifth hole of the day (only player in the field to eagle the hole during the tournament). That momentum continued on the back nine, making birdie on Nos. 10, 12, and 13 before adding another birdie on the par-3 17th to ultimately finish six-under 64, the lowest score of the entire field that included 93 golfers.

With the round, Landgraf became the first Seminole in program history to shoot 64 in a single round. Her six-under score tied for the third-lowest round relative to par by a Seminole freshman in program history.

After opening the tournament with a five-over 75, Landgraf improved in each round, shooting nine-under over the final 36 holes to finish tied for 14th at four-under 206.

Haruhi Nakatani closed the tournament with her third consecutive round under par, carding a one-under 69 to finish at seven-under 203 (new career low for a 54-hole tournament) and tie for fourth. The sophomore briefly moved to the top of the individual leaderboard after reaching nine-under for the tournament through 15 holes, with birdies on Nos. 7, 9 and 12.

Nakatani made two bogeys over her final three holes but still secured her second top-five finish of the season.

Sophia Fullbrook and Alexandra Gazzoli each shot three-over 73 to provide Florida State's final two counting scores of the round. The Seminoles' Preseason All-American, Fullbrook, and Gazzoli each recorded one birdie, four bogeys and 13 pars. Fullbrook finished tied for 28th, while Gazzoli tied for 33rd.

Florida State has now completed three tournaments over the last two weeks and will take a break before returning to competition Oct. 23-25 at the Landfall Tradition in Wilmington, North Carolina.
