ON GARCIA-PLATA
A very creative player who has the ability to initiate the offense with his strong ball handling skill and ability to take opposing defenders off the dribble…an excellent roll man in the pick and roll offense…has a tremendous ability to change his pace on offense…has a strong combination of shot-making and ball handling and is a creative passer…is a very competitive player…as are many players from Spain, he has a very high basketball IQ and is a very disciplined player…played 19 games for the Real Madrid B team in the 2024-25 Tercera FEB League. season. He averaged 9.9 points per game, shooting 43.9 percent from the field and 31.2 percent from 3-point range…a talented shooting guard who played for the Real Madrid U18 team in Spain in the ADIDAS Next Generation Tournament in 2025..represented Spain in the U17 Basketball World Cup in 2024…played for Spain in the 2024 U18 European Competitions Games…averaged 10.6 points, 2.4 rebounds, 1.3 assists, and 16.1  minutes per game just before his arrival at Florida State…played for the Movistar Estudiantes club team in Spain in 2024 where he averaged 9.7 points, 1.8 rebounds, and 1.2 assists in 22 games played.

SUMMER 2024 FIBA U17 WORLD CUP
Averaged 8.4 points, 2.9 assists, and 2.0 rebounds in seven games as a member of Spain’s Youth team in leading his country to a seventh place finish in the tournament…helped Spain post a 5-2 record in the 2024 U17 World Cup…totaled a personal tournament-best 15 points in a 96-33 win over the Philippines (June 30, 2024)…was one of three times he scored in double figures during the event…also scored 14 points in a 77-55 win over Guinea (July 3, 2024) and 12 points in an 80-75 win over Lithuania (July 2, 2024)…scored 3 points in Spain’s 80-71 win over Canada (July 7, 2024).

SUMMER 2023 FIBA U16 EUROPEAN CHAMPIONSHIP
Led Spain to the FIBA U16 European Championships…scores 9 points and pulled down 2 rebounds in Spain’s first round win over Latvia, 100-48…totaled 6 points with 4 rebounds and 1 assist as Spain defeated Slovenia, 82-79, in the quarterfinals…scored 9 points with 3 rebounds and 2 assists in Spain’s 80-63 win over Lithuania in the semifinals…led Spain to the tournament championship with 16 points, 3 rebounds, and 1 assist in its championship game victory, 77-68, over Italy…the team victory for Spain was a huge achievement for the country’s junior program.

SUMMER 2023 FIBA U16 WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP
Averaged 9.3 points, 2.6 rebounds and 1.1 assists om seven games as a member of Spain’s Youth team in leading his country to the tournament championship…averaged 9.1 points per game in the tournament which was played in Macedonia in 2023.

BEFORE FLORIDA STATE
Graduated from Ortega and Gassett High School in 2025…also attended Ramiro de Maeztuu High School…developed through Spain’s structured youth basketball system, because there are no high school teams…grew up balancing academics with elite training, influenced by his family’s focus on education and discipline…began to make a name for himself in Spain’s U12 league as he played with Real Canoe.

PERSONAL
Born September 12, 2007…Maximo is the son of Estefania and Fernando Garcia Plata…his father is an aerospace engineer, and his family strongly values education…has a younger brother, Espartaco…played soccer before focusing fully on basketball…his favorite player is Luka Doncic…would watch Doncic’s highlights and attempted to recreate his moves every time he was on the court…adjusting to life in the U.S. included adapting to independence, language, and cultural differences…hopes to become the first in his family to earn a degree in the U.S...chose Florida State over Michigan State.
