PERFORMANCE PROFILE

Enters junior season hoping to regain form which led to a productive 2017 freshman campaign…will compete in the 400 and contend for spots on the 4×400 and DMRs…battled season-long injuries which limited his fitness and schedule in 2018.

 

2018

Indoor: Competed in only two meets…ran the 400 and both the Orange & Purple Invitational and Razorback Invitational. Outdoor: Toed the starting line in four meets…competed in four 400-meter races including his season-best at the Seminole Invitational; his final competition of the year.

 

2017:

Indoor – Capped his debut season with the Noles in style, handling the 400-meter leg and joining Harry Mulenga, Bert Freire and Michael Hall on the ACC runner-up and FSU record-smashing distance medley relay (9:33.39)…also contributed a leg to the Noles’ fourth-place 4×400 which ran a SB 3:11.31…debuted with a runner-up 400 finish (48.27) at the Clemson Invitational and ran 48.76 for the win at the Larry Wieczorek Invitational…competed in six meets overall. Outdoor – Competed in eight meets overall, primarily in the 400 and the 4×400…consistently contributed to the 4×400 relay, which improved throughout the season and recorded a fifth-place ACC Championships finish in then season-best 3:07.91, which secured a spot in the NCAA East Preliminary…ran 47.63 for fifth in the 400 at FSU Relays…lowered his personal-best to 47.60 at the Tom Jones Memorial.

Personal:

Established his 400 PB at the ’15 AAU Club Championships (48.54) where he finished third…1A state runner in the 400-meter dash in 2015…state qualifier in the 400 as a junior and as a freshman in the 800 at Maclay, where he competed for six years before transferring to East Gadsden as a senior…was also a member of two 1A state runner-up cross country teams at Maclay…also played football as a junior at Maclay…was on President’s List during his senior year while taking classes at Tallahassee Community College…the son of Steven and Alonzetta Simpkins…majoring in marketing…born Oct. 15, 1997.
