Indoor: Opened his indoor season at the Gamecock Opener earning first in the 60 (6.57)…at the Bob Pollock Indoor Invitational helped the 4×400 finish third (3:09.14)…finished third in the 200 (20.68) at the Tyson Invitational.
Outdoor: Began his outdoor season at the North Florida Invite helping the 4×100 take first place (39.16)…competed in three events at the ACC Outdoor Track & Field Championships winning the 200 (20.36 (1.0)) and the 4×100 (28.95) along with earning a second place finish in the 100 with a personal best time of 10.17 (1.6)…qualified in three events for the NCAA Division I East Preliminary Round earning second in the 200 with a personal best time of 20.28 (1.5) , fifth in the 100 (10.04w (3.1)) and second in the 4×100 (38.67)…advanced to the NCAA Division I Track & Field Championships helping the 4×100 finish third with a time of 38.60, finished 18th in the 200 (20.83 (o.7)) and 24th in the 100 (11.14 (0.0)).
2019
Indoor: Was the NCAA Indoor Championships runner-up in the 200-meter dash at Birmingham and finished eighth in the 60-meter dash, helping FSU to a sixth-place team finish…ran personal-best of 6.55 in the 60 and 20.49 in the 200 in the preliminary rounds, which each rank No. 4 all-time among Noles…he is the first FSU athlete since Maurice Mitchell in 2012 to earn first-team All-American honors in two events at the NCAA Indoor Championships…claimed ACC Championship Track MVP honors after sweeping the 60- and 200-meter individual titles, then anchoring the 4×400 relay to victory as FSU clinched a share of the team title with host Virginia Tech…he was the first Seminole to win ACC titles in those three events since Walter Dix in 2005…James was voted ACC Indoor Men’s Performer of the Year…was the top collegian in the 200 (20.59) at the Clemson Tiger Paw Invitational…was second in the 60-meter dash (6.56) and won the 200 (20.49) at the Texas Tech Classic, handing eventual NCAA champion Divine Oduduru his lone loss 200-meter finals loss – indoors or outdoors – of the collegiate year…ran 6.57 60 in his debut at the Orange & Purple Elite. Outdoor: competed in the 100-meter dash at the Crimson Tide Classic (10.46) before suffering a season-ending injury which led to a medical redshirt.
BEFORE FSU:
In two years at Arkansas Baptist College developed into one of the finest sprinters in the junior college ranks collecting six, first-team All-American honors…finished sixth in the 60- and 200-meter dashes as a freshman at the 2017 NJCAA Indoor National Championships…missed outdoor season due to injury…was even stronger as a sophomore in 2018…finished second in the 200 (20.87) and fourth in the 400 at the national meet…carried that progress over and capped his stellar career at NJCAA Outdoor National Championships where he was runner-up in the 200 (20.25w) and sixth in the 100 (10.20w)…earned USTFCCCA National Athlete of the Week honors during the ’18 outdoor season…was on the Arkansas Baptist academic honors list three of four semesters…finished with JUCO PBs of 6.73 (60m), 20.87 (200m) and 46.83 (400m) indoors…outdoor PBs are 10.29 (100m), 20.69 (200m) and 46.51 (400m).
PERSONAL:
Graduated for North Hardin High where he capped his 2016 senior season as the Kentucky 3A runner-up in the 100 (10.50), 200 (21.21) and 400 (48.01)…began his high school career at E.E. Smith in Fayetteville, N.C. before moving to Fort Knox (Ky.) High as a sophomore…spent final two years at North Hardin…the son of Tamara Beatty…majoring in social science…born Dec. 22, 1997.
