Two Second Half Goals Lead No. 2 Soccer to Win at Louisville
10/5/2023 10:14:00 PM | Women's Soccer
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Two goals in the second half led the No. 2 Florida State women's soccer team (9-0-1, 4-0-1) to a 2-0 win over Louisville (2-7-4, 1-3-1) on a rainy night at Lynn Stadium in Louisville, Ky. The Noles have never lost to the Cardinals and have not lost in their last eight road matches which is the fourth-longest streak in school history.
The Noles got some good looks early on in the match as Jordynn Dudley and Beata Olsson each recorded a shot in the first five minutes of the match. Dudley had the Noles best look of the half in the 24th minute, but the goalkeeper made the key save to keep the match scoreless heading into halftime. FSU held a 6-2 shot advantage at the half while also taking six corner kicks
FSU continued to control the possession to begin the second half and continued to put pressure on the Cardinals. Taylor Huff took a shot from just beyond the box that deflected off the goalkeeper and found the back of the net to give the Noles the lead. Mimi Van Zanten earned the assist on the goal, her second of the season.
The Noles put the icing on the cake in the 77th minute as Ran Iwai got the rally started with a perfect pass to Kaitlyn Zipay who sent a beautiful ball to Maria Alagoa who converted for her second goal of the season. It was Zipay's first assist of the season and just the third of her career.
FSU was able to put the game away with more ball control and did not allow the Cardinals to threaten in any way. FSU outshot the Cardinals 10-3 and did not allow Louisville to get a shot off in the final 30 minutes of the match.
Cristina Roque made one save of the night and picked up her ninth win of the season in the goal.
FSU will begin a three-game homestand on Sunday as they take on Boston College at 1 p.m. on ACCNX. Sunday's match will be a whiteout and players will be available after the match to sign autographs.
