Volleyball Defeats Syracuse on the Road

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The Florida State Volleyball team (19-8, 13-2) defeated Syracuse (2-23, 0-15) on Friday night, 3-1 (25-10, 24-26, 25-13, 25-15). It was the fourth win in a row for the Seminoles as they continued their hot streak winning 14 of the last 16 matches.
Florida State quickly took the lead thanks to Kiari Robey's two early kills in the match. The Noles then went on a 5-0 scoring run extending their lead to 12-5. The lead continued to grow as Audrey Koenig picked up her fifth kill making it 17-5. FSU quickly closed out the first set, 25-10.
The Noles faced adversity in the second set. FSU built a 22-16 lead, but Syracuse went on a 6-0 run tying it up at 22-22. The set looked as if it could go either way and it was Syracuse who ended up winning the set 24-26.
The third set appeared to be another close battle but with the help of kills by Kohri Louis, Florida State took a 17-7 lead. FSU kept the pressure on Syracuse as the set would end 25-13.
In the fourth set, FSU jumped out to an early 5-0 lead and would not let up. A block by Sydney Conley and Robey added to the lead and the Noles found themselves up 12-3. Later, Louis would record her 15th kill giving them a 24-14 lead. Florida State would go on to win the fourth set 25-15.
The Seminoles made their defensive presence felt by producing 14 blocks to Syracuse's five and limited them to a .052 hitting percentage.
Florida State was led by Louis's 15 kills and Andjelija Draskovic's 21 assists. Both Kyleene Filimaua and Ella Gaona had 12 digs and for the third match in a row, Robey produce eight or more blocks.
Sunday's home match will be against rival Miami (16-8, 9-5) at 1 p.m. It will be Military Appreciation Day presented by VyStar and includes recognition of current and former military members.
