TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The Florida State football team defeated Charleston Southern 41-7 on Saturday afternoon at Doak Campbell Stadium.

In the team's annual Seminole Heritage and Homecoming game, FSU turned in its most complete performance of the season. The Seminoles had a season-best 415 yards of total offense while the defense held its opponent scoreless in a half for the first time this season and scoreless in the first three quarters for the first time since 2016. Both Florida State's 41 points scored and seven points allowed were season bests.

The offense, which featured 240 passing yards and 175 rushing yards, was powered by quarterback Luke Kromenhoek, who was 13-for-20 passing for 209 yards with three touchdowns and no interceptions. His three touchdown passes are tied for second-most by a true freshman and the most since 2017, when James Blackman games with three and four.

Wide receiver Ja'Khi Douglas led the team with 82 receiving yards and caught one touchdown on a 71-yard completion. With today's total, he surpassed 1,500 career all-purpose yards. On the ground, running back Caziah Holmes had a pair of touchdowns on three carries for 38 yards.

Kicker Ryan Fitzgerald made a 25-yard field goal 78 seconds into the second quarter to improve to 12-for-12 on the season. His 12 consecutive makes to begin the year is tied for the second-longest streak in school history, as he joins Roberto Aguayo, who achieved the feat twice, making his first 12 in 2013 and then a record 14 in a row to begin 2014.

Fitzgerald's field goal was the 57th of his career, which continues to be No. 7 on FSU's all-time list. Additionally, he converted all five extra-point attempts and now stands alone at No. 4 on Florida State's all-time list with 179 PATs in his career.

Defensively, the Seminoles had 66 total tackles, 6.0 for a loss, and added an interception and a fumble recovery. They have recorded at least 5.0 tackles for loss in 10 consecutive games, the team's longest stretch since a 12-game streak in 2013.

Defensive back Ja'Bril Rawls paced the squad with seven total tackles, while defensive lineman Patrick Payton was second with five tackles and two tackles for loss. Defensive back Ashlynd Barker notched the interception, the first of his career, and linebacker Shawn Murphy recovered his first fumble.

With Saturday's win, the Seminoles (2-9) improved to 3-0 all-time against the Buccaneers (1-11). FSU is 62-12-1 in Homecoming contests and has won 11 consecutive Homecoming games.

Fitzgerald's 25-yard field goal with 13:42 left in the second quarter gave the Seminoles a 3-0 lead. On FSU's second drive of the game, the score capped a seven play, 46-yard drive that began late in the first quarter.

On its next drive, Charleston Southern missed a 48-yard field goal attempt. FSU got the ball back, but was forced to punt after a third-down sack. However, the Buccaneer returner fumbled the ball and Murphy recovered it at the CSU 24.

That set up a six-play, 24-yard touchdown drive to extend the Florida State lead to 10-0 with 4:05 left in the half. A four-yard pass from Kromenhoek to tight end Amaree Williams was what found the endzone for the first time. It was Williams' second career touchdown, along with one earlier this season.

The FSU defense forced a three-and-out on the next Buccaneer drive before the Seminoles capped the first half with their second touchdown to make it 17-0.

A three-yard touchdown run by Holmes with 25 seconds left punctuated the drive that began on the FSU 33. Taking just 1:48, the eight-play, 67-yard drive featured back-to-back completions by Kromenhoek of 14 and 29 yards. Holmes' touchdown was the eighth of his career, the sixth on the ground, and his second in 2024.

Florida State wasted no time extending its lead to 24-0 to begin the second half. On the first play following the kickoff, Kromenhoek found Douglas for a 71-yard touchdown. It was the longest pass and catch of both Kromenhoek and Douglas' career, and FSU's longest offensive play for a touchdown this year.

The Seminoles made it 31-0 on their next drive, as Kromenhoek connected with wide receiver Hykeem Williams for a 10-yard score. The second touchdown of Williams' career and first in 2024 came at the end of an 80-yard drive. A 20-yard run by running back Samuel Singleton Jr. and a 38-yard completion from Kromenhoek to running back Micahi Danzy – his first career catch – fueled the scoring drive.

An interception then halted a seven-play Charleston Southern drive, as Barker got his first career pick. He returned the interception 57 yards to the CSU 16 to set up a field goal. Kicker Jake Weinberg made his first career appearance and converted the 23-yarder to begin the fourth quarter and extend the Florida State lead to 34-0.

An 11-play, 51-yard drive that took more than six minutes followed for the Buccaneers, but they could not get closer than the FSU 20 to set up a 41-yard field goal attempt. The kick was no good to keep it a 34-0 contest.

Quarterback Brock Glenn then orchestrated a touchdown drive of his own to give FSU a 41-0 lead. An 18-yard touchdown run by Holmes with 5:24 left in the game was his second score of the day.

Charleston Southern scored for the first time with 59 seconds remaining to make it 41-7. A seven-yard touchdown pass came at the end of a 12-play, 75-yard drive that took 4:27.

The Buccaneers recovered the ensuing onside kick at the FSU 35. CSU got to the 10, but the Seminole defense forced four consecutive incomplete passes to prevent another score and preserve the 41-7 final.

The 2024 season comes to a close next weekend against in-state rival Florida on Saturday, November 30. Kickoff at Doak Campbell Stadium is set for 7 or 7:30 p.m. ET on ESPN2.
