No. 4 Beach Volleyball Splits Day One of East vs. West Tournament

TALLAHASSEE – The No. 4 Florida State beach volleyball team went 1-1 on Friday afternoon on the first day of the East vs. West Tournament in Manhattan Beach, California. The Seminoles defeated No. 13 Hawaii and fell short to No. 6 Cal.
The Seminoles started the day with a 4-1 win over Hawaii. Junior Audrey Koenig and senior Raelyn White came out victorious in three sets on court two, winning set three by a slim three-point margin. On court five, senior Caitlin Moon and graduate student Kaeli Crews put up a valiant effort, fighting back from a one set deficit and forcing a third set. However, the Rainbow Wahine emerged victorious with a final of 15-10 in the third. Over on court three, sophomore Carra Sassack and senior Alli Hansen put on a dominating performance, winning the match 2-0 and shutting down the second set with a final score of 21-9.
Florida State came up short against No. 6 Cal, losing 4-1. Anna Long and Alexis Durish put on a gritty performance, earning FSU's point. The first set was a hard-fought matchup which the Noles won 26-24. The Golden Bears were firing on all cylinders, winning all courts except one in two sets. Moon and Crews fought hard and forced a third set on court five but ultimately dropped the point.
Florida State will be back in action at 12:30 p.m. Eastern Time on Saturday to play No. 2 UCLA, then again at 4:00 p.m. against No. 10 LMU. Live stats will be available on Seminoles.com.
