NCAA Run Continues in Second Round vs. Lipscomb in D.C.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The No. 3-seeded Florida State soccer team will play Lipscomb in the Second Round of the NCAA Tournament on Thursday, November 20, in Washington, D.C.
Kickoff is set for 2 p.m. ET. Thursday's neutral-site contest, along with the Third Round game on Sunday for the winner, will be hosted by Georgetown at Shaw Field.

Making its 26th consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance and playing in the Second Round for the 25th time and 21st in a row, Florida State is coming off a 4-0 win over Samford in the First Round on November 14. Unbeaten in its last four games with an 11-3 scoring margin, FSU is 11-2-4 on the season, 7-1-2 at home, 4-1-2 on the road, 2-2-1 against top-25 opponents and 1-0-1 in the postseason. The Seminoles finished fourth in the ACC with a 6-2-2 record and made the conference tournament for the 31st time, the only program to make the postseason event every year in the team's history. FSU played three of the four No. 1 seeds in this year's NCAA Tournament in ACC play, going 1-2-1 against those three squads.
With four national championships and 14 College Cup appearances, Florida State is 85-19-6 (.798) all-time in the NCAA Tournament. That includes a 21-2-1 record in the Second Round, 15-0-1 at home, 2-1-0 on the road and 4-1-0 at a neutral site. The team's lone defeats came in 2001 and 2016, while 2017 was the last time FSU played a neutral site Second Round game besides the 2020 tournament, contested in the spring of 2021 solely in Cary, North Carolina. The Seminoles have made the NCAA Tournament every year since 2000 and have made the Second Round every time except for 2004.
In the NCAA Tournament for the fifth time and in the Second Round for the second time, Lipscomb is 15-5-2 on the season. The Bisons and Seminoles have never played before.
FSU has scored 47 goals with 50 assists on 320 shots and 145 shots on goal in 2025. In 17 games, the team has allowed 13 goals on 115 shots, 44 on target, with 31 saves for a 0.760 goals-against average and a .705 save percentage.
Junior forward Jordynn Dudley leads the team with 30 points, 12 assists and 61 shots and is second with nine goals and 24 shots on goal. She had a point in 13 consecutive games with multiple points in four of the last five matches to conclude the regular season. Sophomore forward Wrianna Hudson paces the team with 12 goals and 31 shots on goal and is second with 25 points. In goal, freshman Kate Ockene has made 11 saves in her nine appearances for a .647 save percentage and a 0.87 goals-against average.
In the national rankings, FSU is No. 5 in the country in goals per game (2.76), No. 6 in points per game (8.47) No. 7 in assists per game (2.94) and shots on goal per game (8.53), No. 8 in shots per game (18.82), No. 10 in goal differential (+34), No. 11 in corner kicks per game (7.06) and No. 16 in shutout percentage (.588).
Individually, Dudley is third in the NCAA in assists per game (0.71), eighth in total assists (12), 14th in points per game (1.76) and 27th in total points (30). Hudson ranks No. 5 in shot accuracy (.660), No. 21 in goals per game (0.71), No. 28 in shots on goal per game (1.82) and No. 29 in total goals (12).
In the final regular-season poll, Florida State remained at No. 6 in the United Soccer Coaches top-25, released on November 4. The Seminoles also are seventh in this week's Top Drawer Soccer poll.
SERIES HISTORY VS. LIPSCOMB
Florida State and Lipscomb will meet for the first time on Thursday. FSU is 31-1 all-time against current Atlantic Sun squads, including 3-0 in NCAA games, all in the First Round. The Seminoles' first-ever NCAA Tournament game was a 4-1 win over Jacksonville in 2000, and they also bested JU 6-0 to open the 2006 tournament. In 2022, FSU downed Florida Gulf Coast 3-0 in the First Round. Florida State is 4-0 vs. FGCU, 13-1 against Jacksonville, 5-0 vs. North Florida and 9-0 vs. Stetson. This is the first time Florida State will face an ASUN team at a neutral site.
Most recently, the Seminoles played Stetson earlier this season, a 7-0 victory on September 4. A season-high seven goals included five in the second half as six players scored and six had an assist. 23 players appeared in the game, all but two for at least 19 minutes. SCOUTING THE BISONS
Lipscomb is 15-5-2 on the season, 10-0-2 at home and 5-5-0 on the road. The Bisons went 7-2-1 in the Atlantic Sun to finish second overall before a trio of ASUN Championship wins to claim their second consecutive tournament title. LU is coming off a 1-0 win at sixth-seeded Mississippi State to open NCAA play on November 15. A 32nd-minute goal was the difference as Lipscomb made five saves and was out-shot 18-3, including 6-2 in shots on goal.
The Bisons are making their fifth NCAA Tournament appearance, all since 2018, and back-to-back berths for the second time, along with their first two appearances in 2018 and 2019. Lipscomb have advanced to the Second Round twice, along with their inaugural appearance in 2018. That first NCAA run also began with a 1-0 win at Mississippi State before a Secon Round matchup in Washington, D.C., against an ACC opponent, with 2018 being a 3-0 loss to Duke. LU is 2-4 all-time in NCAA play.
LAST TIME OUT: FIRST ROUND SHUTOUT WIN
Florida State defeated Samford 4-0 in the NCAA Tournament First Round at the Seminole Soccer Complex on November 14. With their 10th shutout of the season, the Seminoles bested the Bulldogs for the second year in a row to begin NCAA play. The victory snapped Samford's 14-game unbeaten streak and improves FSU's all-time record against SU to 6-0-0, including 4-0-0 in postseason competition.
Sophomore midfielder Taylor Suarez led the way offensively with a goal and two assists, including the game-winner. She led all players with four shots and three shots on goal. Suarez's four points, two assists and four shots all tied career highs. Junior midfielder Yuna McCormack netted the game-winning goal in the 11th minute to give FSU the early lead, and FSU never looked back.
Florida State out-shot Samford 22-4 with an 11-1 advantage in shots on goal. The home side earned five corner kicks and did not allow one. Ockene stopped the only shot she faced on frame to earn her second complete-game shutout of the season, both in the last two games. Samford's keeper made seven saves.
The win was the 250th of head coach Brian Pensky's career. He boasts a 250-118-57 career record in 21 seasons and a 65-7-12 mark in four seasons at Florida State. He has advanced to the NCAA Second Round 10 times in his career, including five years in a row and all four at FSU.
