No. 4 FSU Faces UF in Jacksonville

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The No. 4 Florida State baseball team faces in-state rival Florida in a neutral-site game in Jacksonville on Tuesday evening at 6 p.m. ET.
The game will be held at VyStar Ballpark (formerly Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville and 121 Financial Ballpark), the MiLB home of the Triple-A Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp. It is sold out.
The game will be streamed live on ACCNX, and fans can listen to the game via the Seminole Sports Network on WFLA 100.7 FM and around the world on the FSU Gameday App and Seminoles.com. FSU So. RHP John Abraham (2-0, 3.65 ERA) vs. Fr. LHP McCall Biemiller (0-0, 7.20 ERA)
Florida State sophomore right-hander John Abraham (2-0, 3.65 ERA) will face UF freshman lefty McCall Biemiller (0-0, 7.20 ERA). Abraham will make his fourth career start and first in 2024 while Biemiller is tabbed for his first collegiate start.
Tuesday's neutral-site game is the middle contest of a season-long seven consecutive games away from home for the Seminoles. They began the trip with a 2-1 mark at Miami last weekend and travel to Notre Dame this weekend for the team's third ACC series of the season.
Florida State is 20-3 overall, 16-2 at home and 4-1 on the road. FSU leads the ACC with a 5-1 record. Tuesday will be the team's first neutral-site contest and also the last of 24 consecutive within the state of Florida to open the 2025 campaign.
NOLES BY THE NUMBERS
FSU has scored 203 runs on 273 hits with a .335 batting average, 41 home runs, 107 walks and 32 stolen bases. The pitching staff owns a 2.98 ERA with 66 earned runs allowed in 199.0 innings with 143 hits, 266 strikeouts and 83 walks.
Junior infielder Alex Lodise leads the team with a .458 batting average, 44 hits and eight doubles. Junior outfielder Max Williams paces the team with 10 home runs and joins Lodise with 26 RBI. Junior outfielder Gage Harrelson has eight stolen bases and is second with a .396 average and 38 hits and third with 25 RBI. On the mound, junior lefty Joey Volini is 6-0 with a 0.99 ERA, 52 strikeouts and seven walks in 36.1 innings. Among relievers, sophomore righty Peyton Prescott has a 1.29 ERA with 20 strikeouts in 14.0 innings.
NATIONALY-RANKED SEMINOLES
The Seminoles are in the top six in every major poll for a fourth consecutive week, including at No. 4 in the D1Baseball top-25. They also are No. 4 in the Coaches poll and No. 6 according to Baseball America, NCBWA, Perfect Game and The Athletic. College Baseball Central has FSU at No. 3.
SERIES HISTORY VS. FLORIDA
Florida State is 134-128-1 all-time against Florida with a 12-16 record at a neutral site, a 72-43-1 mark in Tallahassee and a 51-68 record in Gainesville. The two teams will play three times in 2025, and UF claimed the opener on March 11 at Dick Howser Stadium. FSU won all three meetings last year after Florida won the previous four. Since 2020, when the Seminoles won that year's only game, the Gators hold a 7-6 advantage in the series.
On March 11 in Tallahassee, Florida State suffered its first loss of the season, 7-2 to No. 7 Florida. Facing its first ranked opponent of the season, FSU was held to a season-low two runs on six hits with one error. UF scored seven runs on eight hits with no errors. The Seminoles did not score first for the first time this season and trailed for only the second time. Junior infielder Drew Faurot and freshman first baseman Myles Bailey both homered in the game.

SCOUTING THE GATORS
Florida comes to Jacksonville with an 18-8 overall record. The Gators are 15-4 at home, 3-4 on the road and 0-6 in the SEC. Following their win at then-No. 5 FSU on March 11, UF was swept at No. 2 Tennessee and at home by No. 4 Georgia, with home wins over Jacksonville and Florida A&M last week in between the league sets.
In the national rankings, UF is No. 19 by Baseball America, No. 20 according to The Athletic, No. 22 in the Perfect Game top-25, No. 23 in the Coaches Poll and No. 24 by the NCBWA.
Colby Shelton leads the team with a .382 average and 39 hits. Brendan Lawson has 20 RBI and Brody Donay and Bobby Boser each have eight home runs. Aidan King has a 2.39 ERA and a 3-1 record in 26.1 innings, while Luke McNeillie has made 10 relief appearances with a 4.22 ERA in 21.1 innings with 31 strikeouts.

FSU travels to ACC foe Notre Dame for a three-game series from March 28-30. The series in South Bend, Indiana, begins on Friday, March 28, at 4:30 p.m. ET, followed by game two on Saturday at 2 p.m. The finale is set for Sunday at 1 p.m.
LAST TIME OUT: RIVALRY WEEKEND WIN
The Seminoles earned a road series win at Miami from March 20-22, the team's sixth consecutive series win to begin the season. It was their second in ACC play and their first overall on the road. FSU has won back-to-back series to open conference play for the first time since 2022, and the team is 5-1 or better to start league competition for the first time since 2016. Florida State improved to 164-137-4 all-time against Miami, with a 5-1 record in the last two years.
A complete game by Volini and a team-high six home runs powered FSU to a 14-1 win a seven-inning opener on Thursday night. Lodise and freshman catcher Hunter Carns both hit two home runs as Volini turned in Florida State's first complete game of any length since 2018. He allowed one run, a solo homer to lead off the third, on just two hits, with nine strikeouts and one walk with 79 pitches thrown. Lodise's two homers were part of a four-hit, five RBI day.
FSU's late rally came up short in a 9-6 loss on Friday night. The Seminoles scored four runs on seven hits in the final two innings and sent the tying run to the plate in the ninth with one out, but it was not enough. The late scores came after UM led 4-2 after three innings and 8-2 after five. It was the team's first conference loss in 2025, and they were the last ACC team to drop a game in league play. It also was FSU's first loss away from home in 2025 and the team's first weekend defeat. Florida State lost for the first time when scoring first and scoring in the first inning.
In Saturday night's finale, a seven-run fourth inning and 5.0 shutout innings by relievers helped Florida State to a series-clinching, 10-6 victory. A seven-run fourth inning turned a 3-2 deficit into a 9-3 lead, and the bullpen, led by sophomore right-hander Peyton Prescott, gave up just two hits with eight strikeouts in the final 5.0 innings to secure the win. In a season-long 4.0 innings, he allowed just two hits with a season-high seven strikeouts and two walks. Harrelson and Williams both had two hits, three RBIs and a run scored to lead the way. Williams homered in the eighth inning.
