SERIES HISTORY VS. JACKSONVILLE
FSU is 139-42 all-time against Jacksonville, including 88-14 at home, 50-28 on the road and 1-0 at a neutral site. Two weeks ago, the Seminoles posted a 13-3, eight-inning win at JU on February 17. In a series that began in 1964 and has been played every year except 1992 and 2020, and multiple times in most of those years, Florida State won 20 in a row from 1994-2002 and another 18 consecutively from 2002-2006, with just one loss separating those streaks. More recently, the Seminoles have won the last eight and 11 of 12 since 2022.
Florida State defeated Jacksonville 13-3 in eight innings in Jacksonville on February 17, in the team's first road and midweek game of the year. After a scoreless opening three innings, FSU scored in every other inning, including three in the fourth, six in the sixth and two in the seventh. Three players had multiple hits, three drove in multiple runs and four scored multiple runs. Redshirt sophomore left-hander Payton Manca earned the win and did not allow a run on three hits with two strikeouts and a walk in 3.0 innings. Abraham followed Manca with 2.0 shutout innings of his own and held the Dolphins to one hit and no walks with three strikeouts.
A recap, box score and postgame interviews from Jacksonville is available here.
SCOUTING THE DOLPHINS
Jacksonville is 9-3 on the season, 8-1 at home and 1-2 on the road. The Dolphins are coming off a series loss at UAB, with a 10-2 victory followed by 11-6 and 9-3 defeats. The 13-3 loss to then-No. 16 FSU on February 17 is JU's lone home loss and only midweek game of the year to date.
SERIES HISTORY VS. MERCER
Florida State is 68-11 all-time against Mercer, with a 57-6 mark in Tallahassee and an 11-5 record on the road in a series that began with a 14-12 win in Macon, Georgia, in 1948. FSU won 27 in a row from 1992-2021. The last five games, and all but one since 1998, have been held at Howser. The Bears have won the last two, 13-6 in 2024 and 9-3 a season ago.
On March 18, 2025, FSU suffered a 9-3 loss to Mercer. In a contest to conclude a long homestand two days before the start of ACC play, the Seminoles scored three runs on three hits while the Bears plated nine runs on nine hits.
A recap can be found here.
SCOUTING THE BEARS
Mercer is 11-1 in 2026 and takes its first roadtrip of the season on Wednesday. The Bears swept Penn over the weekend, with 5-4, 5-3 and 10-5 victories. MU, which does not have a game before Wednesday's outing at Howser, is 3-0 in midweeks with wins over Georgia State (8-0) and Florida A&M (7-0 and 5-1). The team's lone setback of 2026 was a 19-3 loss to Troy in the second game of a doubleheader to conclude the opening weekend of the campaign.
LAST TIME OUT: WEEKEND SWEEP
Florida State swept The Citadel from February 28-March 1, taking a doubleheader on Saturday before winning Sunday's finale. In the three-game series, FSU's pitching staff combined to hold The Citadel to three runs, one earned, on eight hits. In 28.0 innings, the seven pitchers struck out 26 and walked just five. While improving to 6-0 at Dick Howser Stadium in 2026, the Seminoles are now 12-1 all-time against The Citadel, all in Tallahassee.
After inclement weather delayed the opener to a Saturday twin bill, FSU defeated The Citadel 6-2 in game one. The Seminoles scored six unanswered runs, including four in the sixth, after the Bulldogs took a 2-0 lead in the fifth. Redshirt senior second baseman Eli Putnam, making his first start as a Seminole, notched his first hits and RBIs at FSU with a two-hit, two-RBI game. Sophomore third baseman Gabe Fraser had a hit with a season-best two RBI and two runs scored. It was Fraser's two-RBI single in the sixth that gave the Florida State the lead. Mendes improved to 3-0 on the season and allowed two runs, one earned, on three hits with four strikeouts and a walk in 6.0 innings. Junior right-hander John Abraham came out of the bullpen for the final 3.0 innings and did not allow a baserunner. While earning his first save of the season and third of his career, Abraham struck out three.
The Seminoles completed the doubleheader sweep with a 2-1, walk-off win in 10 innings later on Saturday. Going to extra innings for the first time this season, the Seminoles took advantage of a throwing error on a fielder's choice ground ball to bring home the game-winner. While scoring two runs on five hits, three FSU pitchers held the Bulldogs to one run on three hits in the 10-inning contest. Junior left-handed starter Trey Beard, making his first start of his Seminole career, threw 5.0 innings and gave up just two hits with six strikeouts and a walk. The one run he allowed was unearned. Sophomore righty Cade O'Leary followed with 2.0 innings of one-hit ball before redshirt junior lefty Kevin Mebil tossed the final 3.0 innings. While earning his first FSU win, Mebil allowed just one baserunner, on an error, and struck out four. Redshirt senior catcher Nathan Cmeyla led the team with three hits.
FSU finished off the sweep with a 2-0 victory on Sunday afternoon. The Seminoles used another strong pitching performance to finish off the series. Junior right-handed starter Bryson Moore turned in the best outing of his career to earn the win, his first at Florida State. In a career-long 6.0 innings, he held The Citadel to just one hit with five strikeouts and one walk. Moore posted his first shutout performance of his career when pitching more than 3.0 innings, and he held the opposition to one hit for the second time in his career when on the mound for more than 3.0 innings. In relief, fellow junior righty Chris Knier threw the final 3.0 innings to earn the save, his first of the season. He also gave up just one hit with four strikeouts and a walk. Offensively for the Seminoles, freshman right fielder John Stuetzer had three hits, his first career multi-hit game, with an RBI, also a collegiate first.
