Top-25 Matchup Set as No. 9 FSU Travels to No. 25 VT

BLACKSBURG, Va. – The No. 9 Florida State baseball team travels to No. 25 Virginia Tech for a top-25 ACC series from April 11-13 in Blacksburg, Virginia.
The three-game set begins on Friday, April 11, at 6 p.m. ET, followed by a Saturday contest at 1 p.m. The finale at English Field at Atlantic Union Bank Park is on Sunday at noon ET.
This weekend's top-25 matchup between two of the top five teams in the ACC standings will be FSU's first weekend series against a ranked opponent in 2025.
Friday and Sunday's games will be streamed live on ACC Network Extra (Friday | Sunday), accessible through your television provider or a subscription to ESPN+. Florida State is 25-7 overall, 18-4 at home, 6-3 on the road and 1-0 at a neutral site. FSU is tied for third in the ACC with an 8-4 record after four weekends. While the team is coming off its first series loss of the season and a midweek road defeat, the Seminoles won their first three ACC series and got off to their best conference start since 2016. A pair of losses last weekend snapped a stretch of eight consecutive series wins to open the campaign.
NATIONALY-RANKED SEMINOLES
The Seminoles are ranked nationally in the top-15 in every major poll this week, including at No. 9 by D1Baseball. They also are No. 7 in The Athletic top 25, No. 8 in the NCBWA and Coaches polls, No. 10 in this week's Perfect Game rankings and No. 13 according to Baseball America.
NOLES BY THE NUMBERS
FSU has scored 263 runs on 352 hits with a .318 batting average, 60 home runs, 148 walks and 40 stolen bases. The pitching staff owns a 4.62 ERA with 140 earned runs allowed in 273.0 innings with 227 hits, 250 strikeouts and 150 walks.
Junior infielder Alex Lodise leads the team with a .448 batting average, 60 hits, 40 RBI, 10 doubles and 110 total bases and is second with 12 home runs. Junior outfielder Max Williams paces the squad with 14 home runs and is second with 35 RBI. Junior outfielder Gage Harrelson has nine stolen bases and is second with a .366 average and 49 hits. On the mound, junior lefty Joey Volini is 7-1 with a 2.56 ERA, 66 strikeouts and 11 walks in 45.2 innings. Among relievers, sophomore lefty Brady Louck has a 2.53 ERA in 10.2 innings and junior right-hander Maison Martinez has struck out 28 batters in 20.2 innings.
SERIES HISTORY VS. VIRGINIA TECH
Florida State is 48-18 all-time against Virginia Tech, 30-10 at home, 14-7 in Blacksburg and 4-1 at a neutral site. With both teams in the ACC, since 2005, FSU is 28-14. The teams last met in 2023 at Dick Howser Stadium, where VT took the first two before a 4-3 Seminole win in the finale. FSU's last trip to Blacksburg was a series win in 2021, capped by a 14-7 victory. The two teams have met every other year since 2013 and every year from 2005-13. Florida State owns the longest win streak in the series, a 15-game stretch from 1989-2006 that includes Metro Conference Tournament wins in 1989 and two in 1990.
SCOUTING THE HOKIES
Virginia Tech is 23-10 on the season, 13-6 at home and 9-6 in the ACC, tied for fifth. The Hokies have won three in a row, with two at Notre Dame and a 3-1 Wednesday win over No. 20 Troy. Against top-25 opponents, VT is 6-1 thanks to a sweep of Wake Forest and a series win over Louisville, both ranked No. 16 at the time and both series coming in Blacksburg.
In the national rankings, the Hokies are No. 25 in the D1Baseball poll. Virginia Tech is receiving votes in the NCBWA and Coaches top-25.
Sam Tackett leads the team with a .393 batting average, 44 hits, 33 RBI and 10 home runs. Jared Davis is second with a .333 average, 42 hits, six homers and 31 RBI. On the mound, Brett Renfrow boasts a 2.25 ERA with 41 strikeouts in 40.0 innings and Jake Marciano has four wins and 43 strikeouts in 35.1 innings.

LAST TIME OUT: RALLY COMES UP SHORT
Florida State's comeback bid came up short in a 5-4 loss at Florida on Tuesday night in Gainesville. The Seminoles rallied to erase two one-run deficits in the first five innings and scored two in the seventh with two outs to make it a one-run game. FSU had the tying run on third and the go-ahead score at second with two outs in the inning, but could not get any closer.
In the final game of three regular-season meetings between the two teams, FSU scored four runs on eight hits and UF scored five runs on six hits. Redshirt freshman left fielder Brody DeLamielleure hit his fourth home run of the season and had two hits, one RBI and three runs scored. Freshman first baseman Myles Bailey also had two hits and an RBI.
