BLACKSBURG, Va. – The No. 9 Florida State baseball team completed a doubleheader sweep, and secured a series win, with a 12-1 victory at No. 25 Virginia Tech on Saturday afternoon in Blacksburg, Virginia.
The Seminoles (27-7, 10-4 ACC) earned their eighth series win of the season through nine weeks and fourth out of five in ACC play. This weekend's top-25 matchup between two of the top five teams in the conference is Florida State's first weekend series against a ranked opponent.
FSU has played three doubleheaders, all in the ACC, and has swept all three, including two on the road. Saturday's twin bill finale comes after Florida State won the opener 3-1 on a cool and windy afternoon at Atlantic Union Bank Park.
Junior left-handed starter Jamie Arnold held the Hokies (23-12, 9-8 ACC) to one run on four hits in a career-high-tying 7.0 innings. He struck out nine and walked just two.
Meanwhile, the Florida State offense scored single runs in four of the first six innings, all on home runs, before a two-run seventh and three runs in the eighth and ninth to put the game away.
Junior second baseman Drew Faurot, junior shortstop Alex Lodise, sophomore third baseman Cal Fisher and redshirt freshman Brody DeLamielleure all homered in the contest. Three of the four long balls coming with two outs.
Lodise led the team offensively with two hits, three RBI and two runs scored. He was one of five Seminoles with two hits, including Fisher, who added two RBI and three runs.
FSU scored its 12 runs on 13 hits with no errors and VT was limited to one run on four hits with one error. Seven of Florida State's runs came with two outs. The Seminoles scored 12 or more runs for the fifth time this season and for the fourth time in ACC play.
With the two wins today, Florida State improves to 50-18 all-time against Virginia Tech and 16-7 on the road. FSU has won three in a row in the series and will go for a four-game streak for the first time by either team since the Seminoles claimed five consecutive from 2011-12.
Fisher put FSU on the board with his fourth home run of the season in the second inning, a two-out solo shot to left field.
Lodise made it 2-0 an inning later with his 13th homer in 2025 and DeLamielleure made it three consecutive innings with his fifth home run in the fourth inning. Both long balls were solo homers with two outs.
The 3-0 lead came as Arnold struck out the side in the first and got another two punchouts in a perfect second. A double play ended the third after a leadoff single was the Hokies' first baserunner of the game. In the fourth, after DeLamielleure's home run, Virginia Tech got on the board with a two-out double to make it 3-1.
A scoreless fifth, where Arnold got a line-out double play to end the frame, preceded Faurot's home run in the sixth. The eighth homer of the season for Faurot went to left, came with one out and made it 4-1.
Florida State added two in the seventh, thanks to an RBI double from Lodise and a run-scoring single from junior center fielder Max Williams. Both came with two outs and extended the FSU advantage to 6-1.
Arnold capped his night with a flyout to end the seventh and strand two runners.
A three-run eighth made it 9-1. A bases-loaded walk and a hit batter brought in the first two runs and a fielder's choice groundout scored the last.
Sophomore righty John Abraham relieved Arnold to start the eighth and retired the side in order.
FSU tacked on three more insurance runs in the ninth to make it 12-1. Again with the bases loaded, Fisher reached on a fielder's choice for the first run. With two outs, freshman catcher Hunter Carns doubled in the next run and a wild pitch brought in the game's final tally.
Abraham finished off the win with a trio of strikeouts in the bottom of the ninth.
