TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The No. 7 Florida State baseball team scored seven runs in the first inning and never looked back in a 19-0 win in seven innings over USF on Tuesday night at Dick Howser Stadium in Tallahassee, Florida.
Eight starters had multiple hits, four had multiple RBIs and seven scored multiple runs. Meanwhile, the pitching staff allowed just three hits and did not walk a batter to register its fourth shutout of the year. FSU has won four in a row with a total of four runs allowed in that stretch.
The Seminoles (29-7) jumped out to a 7-0 lead after one inning and added a season high eight more in the fifth. The Bulls (20-14) had single runners on base four times, but only once did they reach second base, in the first inning with two outs.
Sophomore third baseman Cal Fisher had two hits, four RBI and two runs scored and hit his fifth home run of the season. Junior second baseman Drew Faurot and sophomore left fielder Chase Williams both had two hits and two RBI, as Faurot scored twice and Williams once. Junior shortstop Alex Lodise also had two hits, three RBI and two runs scored, while junior center fielder Max Williams, freshman first baseman Myles Bailey and freshman catcher Hunter Carns all had two hits and an RBI. Max Williams scored three runs and Bailey and Carns both scored two. Junior right fielder Gage Harrelson led off FSU's first inning with a triple to start a two-hit, two-run contest. Off the bench, freshman Noah Sheffield drove in two runs.
On the mound, redshirt freshman left-handed starter Payton Manca gave up just two hits with four strikeouts in 4.0 shutout innings. He earned the win to improve to 2-1. Junior righty Ben Barrett followed with 2.0 one-hit innings, recording every out via the strikeout for a career-best six. Redshirt junior left-hander Jacob Marlowe pitched a no-hit final inning with one strikeout. The FSU trio did not walk a batter in the seven-inning contest, the second time the pitching staff has achieved that feat this season.
Florida State scored 19 runs on a season-high-tying 20 hits with no errors. All but four of those 20 hits were singles. USF was held scoreless for the first time in 2025 on a season-low-tying three hits with one error.
FSU leads the all-time series 76-16 with a 47-5 mark in Tallahassee. The Seminoles have won six in a row. Tuesday night is the largest margin of victory for either team since a 24-1 home win in 2015 and the first shutout for either club since an 8-0 victory in 2013 in Tallahassee. It eclipses a 17-0 Florida State home win in 1980 as the biggest shutout win for either team in the in-state series.
The Seminoles opened up a 7-0 lead in the first inning as a Harrelson triple and Lodise RBI double got the offense going. Fisher brought in a pair on a bases-loaded single before a fielder's choice with the bases loaded scored another. With two outs, Carns and Lodise each singled home one more for the sixth and seventh runs. FSU saw 12 men come to the plate in the opening frame.
A Chase Williams single up the middle made it 8-0 in the second.
Meanwhile, Manca left a runner on second after a two-out double in the first and retired the side in order in the second. He struck out the final batter in the third to strand one on first following a two-out single. Manca pitched a 1-2-3 fourth to conclude his night.
FSU tacked on two more in the bottom of the fourth to make it 10-0 on Fisher's two-out, two-run home run off the left field scoreboard.
Florida State scored eighth in the fifth on eight hits to extend the advantage to 18-0 as 13 batters came to the plate. All eight hits were singles, with the first five runs coming before an out was recorded. Max Williams, Bailey, Faurot, Chase Williams, redshirt senior pinch hitter Nathan Cmeyla and junior pinch hitter Carter McCulley all drove in runners with base hits, with Faurot's bringing home two.
Barrett struck out the side in the fifth and fanned three in the sixth, with a one-out single.
One more run was added in the bottom of the sixth as Sheffield reached on a fielder's choice that brought in the 19th and final run of the night.
Marlowe fired a scoreless seventh to seal the win, with a groundout to end it.
